How Insurance Agents Can Use AI to Write Better Sales Scripts

Explore expert guides, software reviews, automation strategies, and proven marketing insights designed to help insurance agents streamline operations, generate more leads, and grow their business.

AI can be an excellent script-writing assistant for insurance agents. It can also produce terrible scripts. The difference usually comes down to how the agent uses it.

Artificial intelligence should help organize your thinking, improve wording, generate variations, anticipate questions, and adapt a proven framework. It should not become an unsupervised insurance salesperson.

Start With a Framework, Not “Write Me a Script”

One of the weakest AI prompts is simply: “Write me a life insurance sales script.” The AI has almost no context.

A better prompt explains the product category, prospect type, lead source, stage of the conversation, desired outcome, tone, reading level, compliance boundaries, questions that must be asked, and claims that must not be made.

Create a conversational framework for an independent life insurance agent speaking with a homeowner who requested information online. The goal is to understand the client’s financial protection needs and complete an appropriate needs analysis. Keep the language simple and non-pushy. Do not guarantee approval, savings, benefits, rates, or eligibility.

Have AI Write Questions Before It Writes Answers

Most poor sales scripts contain too much talking. Ask AI: “What questions should an agent ask before making a recommendation?” That often produces something more useful than “Write a persuasive pitch.”

Ask AI for Multiple Ways to Say the Same Thing

Give AI a strong sentence and ask for a warm version, concise version, senior-friendly version, conversational version, voicemail version, SMS version, or email version. This helps an agent find language that sounds natural.

Use AI to Build Objection Libraries

Give AI common objections such as “I already have insurance,” “It costs too much,” “I need to talk to my spouse,” “I’m happy with my current plan,” or “Send me something.” Then ask it to create clarifying questions rather than aggressive rebuttals.

Turn Successful Conversations Into Frameworks

After a successful conversation, write down or transcribe the opening, questions, transitions, explanations, objections, and closing. Then ask AI which sequence made the conversation effective. Over time, your own best conversations can become an agency playbook.

Use AI to Simplify Language

Insurance professionals can become accustomed to terminology that sounds complicated to consumers. AI is useful for prompts like “Rewrite this at an eighth-grade reading level,” “Remove jargon,” and “Explain this without changing its meaning.”

The Compliance Problem With AI

AI does not know every carrier rule, state regulation, consent requirement, approved marketing rule, or current product detail that applies to your specific situation. It can also confidently invent information.

Never assume an AI-generated script is compliant simply because it sounds professional. Review claims involving premiums, guarantees, eligibility, underwriting, benefits, exclusions, provider networks, formularies, product availability, savings claims, government affiliation, deadlines, enrollment rules, or returns.

For Medicare marketing and sales activity, current CMS requirements and carrier guidance should govern the interaction. Calling and texting can also involve federal and state requirements, consent rules, Do-Not-Call obligations, and carrier/platform restrictions. Annuity recommendations may be subject to state best-interest and suitability requirements.

Use AI as a Compliance Checklist Generator

Instead of asking “Is this script compliant?” ask: “Identify every factual, legal, product, consent, or eligibility claim in this script that should be independently verified.” Then verify those items against the appropriate official source, carrier material, or compliance department.

Build a Script Library With AI

A mature agency could maintain frameworks for first contact, inbound leads, outbound leads, voicemail, missed calls, appointment booking, annual reviews, cross-selling, referrals, no-shows, renewals, old-lead reactivation, final expense, life insurance, Medicare review, supplemental health, and P&C review.

Teach AI Your Voice

Give AI examples of your normal language. Tell it to use contractions, keep sentences short, avoid corporate jargon, avoid pressure, ask one question at a time, and write the way an experienced independent agent would actually speak.

A Strong AI Script Workflow

  1. Define the goal.
  2. Define the consumer and situation.
  3. Define required discovery questions.
  4. Define prohibited or unverified claims.
  5. Generate the first draft.
  6. Simplify the language.
  7. Review factual claims.
  8. Compare against carrier/compliance requirements.
  9. Role-play objections.
  10. Rewrite it in your own voice.

Bottom Line

The winning combination is proven sales framework + agent experience + AI editing + compliance review. AI should make a good agent more consistent. It should not replace professional judgment.
